Dragon Ball Z Final Stand Mastered Super Saiyan Blue
- This article is about the mastered Super Saiyan. For the form used by Broly, see Legendary Super Saiyan.
"What is going on? They appear to be Super Saiyans, but they're acting so natural."
— Vegeta's thoughts on Goku and Gohan achieving this form in "Meet Me in the Ring"
Super Saiyan Full Power ( 超 サイヤ人 フルパワー , Sūpā Saiya-jin Furu Pawā ),[4] [5] only ever referred to as Super Saiyan ( 超 サイヤ人 , Sūpā Saiya-jin ) in-universe, is the mastered state of the ordinary Super Saiyan form, which it replaces once it is attained. The form has alternatively been referred to as Super Saiyan Fourth Grade (フルパワー超サイヤ人第四段階 , Sūpā Saiya-jin Dai-Shi Dankai , lit. "Super Saiyan Stage 4") [6] on occasion, and also Super Saiyan beyond Super Saiyan.[7]
Overview
Goku and Gohan relaxed as a Super Saiyan Full Power; their yellowish white hair and relaxed facial features are important to note
The form is no different inherently to the ordinary Super Saiyan. The reduction in the emotional and physical strain of both attaining and maintaining the state mean that the user often appears more relaxed, with eyes and facial features becoming softened and even cheerful. Their aura alters somewhat, radiating energy in a smoother, slower pattern.[4] As it is still essentially the first grade of Super Saiyan, the general traits all remain the same. In the anime, the user's hair is often portrayed as yellowish white, returning to a more yellow-gold tone when the user powers up.
By conditioning themselves to remain transformed for extended periods of time, the Super Saiyan can desensitize themselves to the negative effects of the transformation. Their wild emotions are kept in check allowing them to stay more focused, which results in a more strategic fighting style and pattern of thinking, and passive ki consumption is reduced to negligible amounts. This energy conserving methodology allows them to devote their critical energy to other necessary tasks during combat whilst spending the duration of their time in a relaxed state or simply carrying out normal everyday tasks.
By mastering the transformation, the Super Saiyan is able to retain transformation almost subconsciously, allowing them to transform seemingly indefinitely. In the anime, they are even shown able to sleep in this state peacefully, which is shown to radiate a positive feel to the environment as even wildlife are attracted to them. In requiring less ki to contribute to transform or even maintaining this state itself, the maximum amount of ki can thus be focused into attacks and stamina use, with no adverse effects present. Once this state was mastered, Goku was able to keep up with Perfect Cell, something which Vegeta and Future Trunks could not do in their Super Saiyan Second and Third Grades. Vegeta notes the incredible side effects of the transformation by stating that feeling Goku or Gohan's Super Saiyan Full Power form isn't the same feeling he gets around a normal Super Saiyan.
One of the most notable traits of this state is that unlike an untrained Super Saiyan, which appears to stay at full power at all times, the user is able to freely modify their power level just like in their base state. This means any chosen percentage of the user's maximum power level can be used at any given time, and it can be even suppressed to everyday functioning levels. A downside to this, explored in the anime only, is that with the Saiyan's power instinctively remaining elevated, it can be somewhat difficult to keep it suppressed to levels allowing to carry out day-to-day activities. While Goku and Gohan were drinking orange juice from glasses, they repeatedly broke the glasses from the difficulty of controlling their strength. It was believed that the original Super Saiyan form could not be used in conjunction with the Spirit Bomb, during the Kid Buu Saga, Goku manages to use the mastered transformation after successfully creating and throwing the Super Spirit Bomb.
When a Super Saiyan achieves an extremely high level of power, they will exhibit sparks around their aura (like a Super Saiyan 2), this has only been displayed by Vegito, Goku Black, and Goku in Dragon Ball GT against powerful opponents or a specific ritual (after taking power from Vegeta, Gohan, Goten and Trunks).
In an interview, Akira Toriyama noted that since Super Saiyan 2 and Super Saiyan 3 are simply powered-up versions of Super Saiyan, completely mastering the normal state and the Super Saiyan form would lead Super Saiyan to being stronger than both Super Saiyan 2 and Super Saiyan 3.[8] In Dragon Ball Super, once Goku and Vegeta master the power of Super Saiyan God, they can further evolve their power by utilizing the power of Super Saiyan God in conjunction with Super Saiyan, the result being Super Saiyan Blue.
While being just coincidental, when transforming into a Super Saiyan in Dragon Ball Super: Broly, Vegeta briefly gains green hair like that of the Legendary Super Saiyan form.
In the Super Dragon Ball Heroes anime, Goku and Vegeta's transformation effect into Super Saiyan is the same as Super Saiyan Blue - though in this case they are enveloped in a golden aura which cracks around them - while Future Trunks is the normal Super Saiyan transformation effect.
It is stated in Dragon Ball Legends that Super Saiyan 2 cannot be achieved unless the Saiyan has already attained Super Saiyan Full Power.
Usage and power
Cell and Goku face off
Despite having a different name than the basic Super Saiyan form, this form is no different in terms of transformation; the difference lies in the user is able to remain calm, relaxed, and conserve their energy and stamina. After realizing Super Saiyan Second Grade and Super Saiyan Third Grade consume too much speed and stamina in exchange for power, not to mention the energy consumption of the transformation itself, Goku decided the base Super Saiyan form was best for balancing the three; rather than focus on increasing their power output, Goku and Gohan ceased their training so they can remain in Super Saiyan 24/7, even when they are asleep. As a result, their bodies became accustomed to the Super Saiyan form that they can maintain it effortlessly while living their day to day lives with absolutely no stress on their bodies. When they fight, the stress on their bodies is extremely minimal, allowing them to fight more strategically and longer.
This form draws out the power of the Super Saiyan to it's limits,[9] and becomes able to surpass the previous limits of Super Saiyan power.[7] According to some sources this form's power is equal to Super Saiyan Third Grade, but with none of the downsides.[10] [11]
Goku is the one to come up with the idea of mastering the Super Saiyan form into a natural state while in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, stating that they need to get rid of the instability and restless feeling.
Super Saiyan Goten and Super Saiyan Trunks in Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn
While never actually outright stated in the series, other Saiyans appeared to have obtained this mastery later on. Future Trunks had achieved this form by the time he confronted Future Cell.[4] Goten and Trunks both easily attained the Super Saiyan form, and seem to have mastered it at a young age.
When Gohan enrolled for Orange Star High School, he had to deal with some bank robbers. In order to prevent his identity from being discovered, he transformed into a Super Saiyan, earning himself the title of Gold Fighter. On his first day at the high school, he had to deal with another band of robbers, and once again transforming into a Super Saiyan. After hearing his classmates talk about the mysterious Gold Fighter having a resemblance to him (mainly the clothes he wears), he decided using Super Saiyan as a means of disguise is ineffective, and instead opted a new disguise.
Goten and Trunks' fusion form, Gotenks, seen late in Dragon Ball Z, easily gained the ability to transform into a mastered Super Saiyan, as well as Super Saiyan 2 and Super Saiyan 3. Likewise in Dragon Ball Super, Caulifla was able to consciously manifest the Super Saiyan form the first time and likewise remained calm as ever, going on to achieve Super Saiyan 2 in the anime. Cabba also achieved Super Saiyan 2 in the anime, indicating that he mastered Super Saiyan.
This form is used by Goku and Gohan in Dragon Ball Z: Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan. It continues to appear throughout the other Dragon Ball movies through to Dragon Ball Z: Wrath of the Dragon.
Gohan as Super Great Saiyaman in Dragon Ball Super
During Great Saiyaman's battle with the Watagash possessed Barry Kahn, Gohan uses Super Saiyan Full Power while wearing his helmeted Great Saiyaman Suit. This state is dubbed by the 2nd Great Saiyaman film director as Super Great Saiyaman. Due to his helmet concealing his hair, only his Super Saiyan aura is visible.
During Goku's battle with Beerus as a Super Saiyan God in the Battle of Gods movie and anime, Goku dropped out of the form, but somehow managed to retain the strength of his Super Saiyan God form in his regular Super Saiyan and base form. Goku used the enhanced power to battle Beerus. Later, Goku trained with Whis and after gaining enough power and further mastering Super Saiyan, his Super Saiyan form evolved into the Super Saiyan Blue form. In Battle of Gods, Gotenks uses the form when he challenges Beerus, but is easily taken out.
During the Universe 6 Saga, Vegeta and Goku's usage of this Super Saiyan form post-Whis training was referred to as "Chou Super Saiyan".[12]
Vegeta's hair briefly turning green during transformation in Broly
Super Saiyan Vegeta in Dragon Ball Super: Broly
In Dragon Ball Super: Broly, Vegeta transforms into Super Saiyan to easily overwhelm Broly after he had grown enough to pressure him with his winter clothes taken off. However, he gets pressured when Broly begins to grow further. Goku displays considerably greater performance coupled with both his superior power and skill to Vegeta by being able to trade blows with Wrathful Broly whereas Vegeta in his Super Saiyan God form could not do so and even land hits on him before ultimately being pushed back by Broly's growth and forced to change to Super Saiyan God. Gogeta's power in this form was so great he could fight Super Saiyan Broly equally, with their power being enough to break the fabric of reality, and combined with his greater fighting skills, was able to gain the upper hand at times.
In both the Super Dragon Ball Heroes anime and manga, Xeno Goku, Xeno Gohan, Xeno Vegeta, and Xeno Goten have all achieved Super Saiyan Full Power within the Xeno world main timeline (with the form being first achieved within the Xeno main timeline's Android conflict by Xeno Goku and Xeno Gohan as a result of their training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber), while Xeno Trunks achieved it after the Cell Games using it like his counterpart did to finally kill the Androids and put an end to alternate future timeline's Android conflict.
In Dragon Ball Xenoverse, the Saiyan Future Warrior's Super Saiyan Full Power is represented by their Super Saiyan and Super Vegeta skills, as they are able to achieve Super Saiyan 2 and the game variant Super Vegeta 2.[1]
Female Future Warrior using the Future Super Saiyan Awoken Skill in Xenoverse 2
In Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, the Saiyan Future Warrior automatically gains access to Super Saiyan Full Power upon achieving their Super Saiyan Awoken Skill by training with Goku and Vegeta in the Capsule Corporation Time Miniature rift, as the skill allows them to transform into Super Saiyan Full Power, Super Saiyan 2, and Super Saiyan 3 forms depending upon how Ki they have as Super Saiyan Full Power costs only 300 Ki or 3 Ki bars.[1] Additionally the Super Vegeta Awoken Skill also acts as a game variant that allows the user to transform into Super Saiyan Full Power and Super Saiyan 2. The Future Super Saiyan also represents Super Saiyan Full Power and is also utilized by Time Patrol Future Trunks as his Super Saiyan Full Power form (as this incarnation of Future Trunks came from the period after he defeated Future Android 17, Future Android 18, and Future Cell).[2]
In Dragon Ball Legends while training to complete in the Super Cell Games during the Tournament of Time, Shallot is taught this form by post-Cell Games Gohan (Youth) as part of his training to become a Super Saiyan 2. It should be noted that Shallot only achieves the form as part of the story as his "Super Saiyan" transformation represents both Super Saiyan and Super Saiyan Full Power. As part of the 1.15.00 Update DLC, during the Conton City Tournament, the Toki Toki City Hero (who represents the Future Warrior from Xenoverse) utilizes the Super Vegeta Awoken Skill game variant of Super Saiyan Full Power if the Toki Toki City Hero (selected at the beginning of the game or transferred over fromXenoverse) is race is Saiyan.[13]
